Medals, small keepsakes, and other objects that need a frame built with enough depth to hold them properly, rather than a standard flat frame.
An object frame needs enough internal depth for the item itself, and a way of securing it in place so it doesn't shift inside the frame over time. Where possible, we secure objects using fully reversible methods that don't rely on adhesive or silicone sealant — the same principle we apply to conservation-level work generally (see our conservation framing page). For robust, non-absorbent items where a small amount of adhesive is the practical choice, we'll explain that trade-off rather than assume it either way.
An object can often be framed alongside a related photograph, certificate, or document — for example, a medal alongside the certificate that came with it. Bring everything you'd like included and we'll work out a layout together.
Bring your object (and anything you'd like framed alongside it) to the studio, or request a quote describing what it is and its approximate size.
Anything that isn't flat — a medal, a small keepsake, or a similar three-dimensional item. If you're not sure whether your piece is a good fit, get in touch and describe it to us.
As a standard box-frame depth, up to around 40mm comfortably covers most medals and keepsakes. For larger or deeper pieces, we can build custom frames up to 40cm deep — bring your piece in and we'll confirm the right approach.
